The holidays are a time to gather, to fill your home with laughter, candlelight, and the scent of something delicious in the oven. Whether you’re hosting Thanksgiving dinner or a festive cocktail party, thoughtful design makes all the difference.

At Lex & Hudson, we believe great hosting starts with spaces that blend comfort, beauty, and intention.

A Kitchen made for gathering

No matter how beautifully the rest of the home is designed, everyone always ends up in the kitchen. During the holidays, it becomes the unofficial hub, where glasses are topped off, recipes are shared, and guests linger long after the meal is done. When the kitchen works, the whole celebration feels effortless.

A bright, cozy holiday kitchen with white shaker cabinets, open wood shelves styled with ceramics and glassware, a farmhouse sink with brass faucet, and a marble-clad range hood decorated with a fresh evergreen wreath. A rustic, weathered wood island sits center stage, topped with bread, herbs, and pomegranate. Warm sunlight, festive touches, and layered natural textures create an inviting, lived-in feel.

Set the table, set the tone

A holiday table doesn’t have to be over-styled to feel special. Mix textures (linen, ceramic, brass) and let the palette echo your interiors. A simple arrangement of greenery, candles, and a few collected pieces can look timeless.

Elegant dining room with a rust-colored tablecloth draped to the floor, surrounded by soft gray upholstered chairs. A brass tray with glassware and two tall taper candles sits at the center of the table. The space features intricate white plaster molding, a large floral artwork, and a richly carved wood doorway that frames a view into a second room with a modern brass chandelier and greenery. A champagne bucket on a stand adds a festive, celebratory touch.

Design for connection

Holiday entertaining thrives on flow and comfort. A well-designed living space should allow guests to move naturally without feeling crowded. Try grouping seating in conversational clusters and layering in accent tables so drinks and hors d’oeuvres always have a place to land. Ambient lighting, a mix of sconces, table lamps, and candlelight, helps create that soft holiday glow that instantly makes a room feel more inviting.

Across from it, a soft teal swivel chair pairs with a small round drink table. A floating walnut shelving unit displays books and curated decor, while a neutral rug and leafy views outside create a serene, elegant atmosphere.

Layer warmth through texture

When the temperature drops, design should rise to the occasion. Think wool throws on armchairs, velvet pillows on the sofa, and an oversized rug underfoot. These small additions soften acoustics and instantly make your home feel more intimate.
